Alcohol dependence: release practices, ‘drinking’ spells, and children of alcoholic parents

Cristina Balan Written byCristina Balan

I avoided this subject for a long time. I grew up with a father who drank, so alcohol dependence is not a subject from books for me, but my childhood. When I finally began writing release practices for alcoholism, I told myself: this day has arrived too. So everything I experienced was not for nothing.

Before anything else, I want this very clear: alcohol dependence is an illness and requires medical help. The release practices below are spiritual support for you and your lineage — not treatment or a promise someone will ‘stop drinking’. I do not promote alcohol or drugs in any form either.

Below I explain how I see alcoholism energetically, how I work on ‘drinking’ spells and programs inherited through the lineage, and what children of alcoholic parents carry as adults — why you are as you are and what you can do.

First of all: where to seek help

If you drink and feel you can no longer stop alone, or live beside someone who drinks, please do not rely only on spiritual work:

  • Your family doctor is the first step: they can refer you onward.
  • A psychiatrist or an addiction treatment / detoxification center — suddenly stopping alcohol after heavy consumption can be dangerous, so it is done under medical supervision.
  • Support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous; for families and children of people who drink, there are groups such as Al-Anon.
  • A psychologist or psychotherapist, especially if you grew up with an alcoholic parent.
  • If you have dark thoughts or are in danger, call Romania’s emergency number, 112.

I always tell people who drink: do not lie to yourself. ‘I only drink one glass’ — if you drink every day, speak honestly with a doctor. People who drank heavily tell me their memory no longer works and they cannot concentrate. Alcohol has concrete consequences, not only energetic ones.

How I see alcoholism spiritually

For me, alcoholism is generally a broken heart. A wounded heart that greatly undermines self-confidence.

A few things I have seen in my work:

  • Alcohol is a symptom, not the source of the problem. Someone in the livestream said you need good motivation not to be dependent. I believe the underlying problems need resolving: pain, loneliness, traumas.
  • The desire to escape. ‘Life is so hard, the pain is so great, I feel so alone’ — and you escape. Some through alcohol, others drugs, others dissociate: the light is on, but nobody is home. This needs therapy.
  • Alcohol opens the field, but downward. I had not drunk for a long time; recently, at a restaurant, I had a glass of wine. My field opened immediately — and I saw only dark images. Through alcohol, no light is seen.
  • Loyalty to the lineage. If you come from a lineage where people drank, there is unconscious loyalty: you belong if you drink too. Children of alcoholics are much more likely to drink themselves — somehow you try to connect with your parents through alcohol: ‘they did this, so I do too’.

I wrote about these inheritances in greater depth in the article on ancestral karma and how to release it.

‘Drinking’ spells

Yes, spells are also cast to make you drink. I have heard of entire lineages affected this way. When I wrote the release practices, I worked on them in myself first — I never give them to clients beforehand — and discovered things that shook me.

Spells come from outside the lineage but are often cast by people dear to you. And not all involve cemeteries and rituals. There are also mental spells: very mentally oriented people program the field unknowingly. In childhood, I heard phrases like ‘eat and drop dead’ thrown hatefully between adults. That is field programming, a curse, even if nobody says ‘I curse you’.

If you suspect you have spells, the first step I always recommend is taking everyone around you and releasing yourself from them on salt. You will have surprises.

The basic phrase for sending back

For what was placed on you and your lineage from outside, say:

  1. ‘I send back all spells, enchantments, voodoo, rituals, witchcraft, and black magic for alcoholism, alcohol dependence, drunkenness, self-destruction through alcohol, and maintaining alcohol consumption upon me and my lineage, to those who performed them. I undo all their protections and program my energy field to no longer accept such things.’

I specifically added ‘I undo all their protections’: more powerful spellcasters protect themselves, and if you only send back, it does not penetrate. The field must be programmed to pass through any protection.

Then repeat the phrase, adding the way you sense it was done. Among other things, during the livestream I sensed: done with a glass, demijohns and funnels, a still and barrels, a candle, incense, cemetery objects, at my wedding, for self-sabotage, waste, extinguishing enthusiasm and the joy of creating, and changing destiny. When you do release practices, the field tells you clearly what to work on — follow that.

What your own lineage did: alchemization, not sending back

We return what is not ours. But what was done by your lineage must be alchemized, using white candles:

  1. ‘I alchemize into love and light all spells, enchantments, voodoo, rituals, witchcraft, and black magic for alcoholism and alcohol dependence performed by my lineage, and ask the victims for forgiveness.’
  2. ‘I dissolve the alcoholism program in my lineage and alchemize it into inner strength.’
  3. ‘Dear ancestors, I dissolve the alcoholism program in our lineage. You drank to cope with life, but it does not work. The only solution is love.’
  4. End by saying three times: ‘Yes to God. Yes to love. Yes to light. Yes to love.’

In the livestream, people said they yawned until tears came, burped, and felt chills or heat; I became warm all over. Someone felt ill and dizzy. These are very heavy energies. If a reaction is strong or does not pass, stop and seek a doctor’s advice.

Anyone using the black candle for what they send back can find the steps in the black candle ritual with musk oil.

Dissolving alcoholism programs

In the second livestream, we worked on programs — because you are a package of programs. There is one formula:

‘I dissolve the [program name] program within me and my lineage and alchemize it into light and love. I program my field and my lineage’s field for [what you want instead].’

Here are the programs I worked on and what you program your field for:

  1. Alcohol consumption perceived as normal behavior in the family → health, discernment, and conscious choices.
  2. Difficulty reducing or stopping consumption despite wanting to → will, freedom, and personal power.
  3. Loyalty to suffering and alcoholism in the lineage → freedom, healing, and evolution.
  4. The inherited belief that men must drink to be accepted → authenticity and freedom.
  5. Alcohol used to reduce the pain of lacking recognition and appreciation → personal worth, confidence, and fulfillment.
  6. Identification with the alcoholic role and an identity built around dependence → a free, healthy, authentic identity.
  7. Prosperity associated with stress and alcohol with relaxation → prosperity, peace, and balance. I worked in finance and saw how often people drank there to cope with stress.
  8. Alcohol as the only source of comfort → inner resources, support, and balance.
  9. The belief that life is too hard to live without alcohol → courage, resilience, and confidence.
  10. Loneliness soothed only through alcohol → healthy relationships.
  11. Repeating ancestral drinking patterns → freedom, awareness, and transgenerational healing.
  12. Shame, guilt, and low self-esteem after drinking → compassion, forgiveness, and self-love.
  13. Powerlessness before alcohol → personal power and autonomy.
  14. Dependence at the physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual levels → health, balance, and complete freedom.

Be aware: you work on yourself and your lineage, not another person. You go no further than ‘within me and my lineage’: you violate the other person’s free will and take on karma. Each in their own time.

In release practices, I work with the book, candle, and musk oil.

Children of alcoholic parents: why you are this way as an adult

The book that led me toward spiritual awakening was Adult Children of Alcoholics (‘Adult Children of Alcoholics’), by Janet G. Woititz. I cried a great deal while reading it, but it brought me much light. I thought only I had lived through this. That is not so.

A child with an alcoholic parent is an abandoned child, except the abandonment is invisible: the parent is at home, but in a parallel world. And your childhood is stolen — you take the absent parent’s place.

At our home, father began drinking increasingly around age 35 until he lost his job. I came home from school and went straight to the animals; I washed my hands ten times so I would not smell at school. I walked on tiptoe around the house so an argument would not start. I invited nobody home. And there is no greater shame than coming home from school with classmates and seeing your father fallen in a ditch.

Signs the adult carries

  • Life is a dangerous place. You are always on alert, and quiet sends you into panic — it is the calm before the storm.
  • You feel different from others. As a teenager, I did not know how to make small talk because my problems concerned survival.
  • Self-esteem is rock bottom, even if you succeed. Your boundaries were constantly violated. I believed I was more stupid than others, though objectively I was not.
  • Intermittent love. Sober, the parent says ‘I love you’; drunk, they are absent. This creates a traumatic attachment: you cling too much, run away, or alternate. Calm relationships seem boring.
  • You no longer trust your own perceptions. You constantly check reality and ask for confirmation. That is why children of alcoholics are very vulnerable to narcissists.
  • Excessive responsibility and people pleasing. You work overtime for free, do the boss’s work, until burnout. Or escape into work: I do not want to drown in alcohol like father, so I drown in work.
  • Perfectionism and a merciless inner judge. You constantly punish yourself and move between extremes.
  • Impatience. ‘Never mind, later’ promises were never kept, so now you want everything now.
  • You struggle to have fun and play, including with your children. You need order because there was too much chaos.
  • Imaginary worlds. I lived in the conditional: ‘what would it be like if I had been born into another family?’
  • Fear of becoming like the parent and even fear of dementia after seeing them in all those states.

You also have a ‘gift’: under extreme stress, many of us function excellently. When I worked three jobs simultaneously, I was best precisely when things were busiest. It is not sustainable, but that is where it comes from.

Two paths, neither happy without self-work

The child may become very resilient or follow the parent’s path. My key moment came at fourteen: the previous evening, I had not managed to study biology because my parents argued beside me. The next day, nobody in class knew the lesson, and I recited it all. Then I decided: whatever hell surrounds me, I can rise — and that is my starting point.

But even the resilient child is not happy until they work on themselves.

What you can do if you grew up with an alcoholic parent

  • Go to therapy. Without healing, we are drawn to one another through trauma — and alongside a father who drinks, a partner who drinks often appears.
  • Work with the inner child. Go back in time, find the child again, and take them away from there. I also wrote about the effects of childhood abuse and healing them.
  • Cry. That inner child is torn in two. I watched sunsets alone and cried.
  • Stop comparing yourself with people who did not experience this. You cannot know what ‘normal’ is if you never saw it.
  • Do not blame yourself for not remembering. The brain protects your psyche and opens the ‘jars’ one by one.
  • Rest. After reading that book, I slept for a whole month. The body needs to recover.
  • Thank the old energies: ‘Dear old energies, you helped me survive when things were hard. Now I am ready to process these emotions and traumas.’
  • Rewrite the story: it was not about you. You took it upon yourself, but it did not belong to you.

If thoughts return that you no longer want to be here, speak to a psychotherapist or call 112 in Romania.

If someone dear drinks

You cannot save someone who has not chosen to stop. The other person chose alcohol — you can choose only for yourself. Work on yourself and your lineage, set boundaries, seek support for yourself from a psychologist or family group. If you face danger of violence, seek help through 112 in Romania. And they need a doctor, not your release practices.

Frequently asked questions about alcohol dependence and release practices

Can release practices cure alcohol dependence?

No. Alcohol dependence is an illness treated with medical help: a family doctor, psychiatrist, addiction treatment center, and groups like Alcoholics Anonymous. Release practices are spiritual support for you and your lineage, alongside treatment, not instead of it.

Can I perform release practices for my husband, father, or child who drinks?

Not directly on them. You work ‘within me and my lineage’; further than that, you violate their free will and take on karma. For yourself, seek support from a psychologist or a group for families of people who drink.

Do ‘drinking’ spells exist?

From what I have seen, yes: spells cast outside the lineage and mental programming thrown hatefully, even by close people. Return them with the basic phrase; alchemize what your lineage did and ask the victims for forgiveness.

What does being the child of an alcoholic parent mean?

It often means a stolen childhood: constant alertness, shame, low self-esteem, ‘intermittent’ love, perfectionism, excessive responsibility, and distrust of your own perceptions. This is worked on through therapy and inner-child healing.

What reactions may appear during alcoholism release practices?

Yawning, tears, burping, chills or heat, sometimes nausea and dizziness. These are heavy energies. If a reaction is strong or persists, stop and seek a doctor’s advice.

You are not condemned. As a child, you were. Now you are an adult and can take your life into your hands — with medical help where needed and much gentleness toward yourself. Sending you a kiss.

Alcohol in the family: support and personal boundaries

When alcohol affects a family’s life, medical and psychological support is essential. Spiritual reflection can have a separate place for emotions and boundaries, but a release-practices book does not treat dependence.

What responsibility you can keep for yourself

You can love someone yet be unable to control their drinking. Separate support from covering the consequences: you can encourage seeking help, but need not take over every problem or remain in danger. If you drink regularly and suspect dependence, speak to a doctor before suddenly stopping: withdrawal may require medical care. NHS: support for alcohol-related problems.

An exercise you can adapt

Write what you can safely offer, what you can no longer take on, and whom you can contact for support. Choose a concrete boundary, such as not discussing difficult subjects with someone under alcohol’s influence. If there is immediate danger, seek emergency help.
