Spells from a mother-in-law: signs, the relationship, and release step by step

Cristina Balan Written byCristina Balan

When I ask people who they believe their spells come from, one name appears very often: their mother-in-law. I have heard it so often, from women and men, that I did an entire livestream just on releasing spells from a mother-in-law — the first time I worked on release practices ‘individually’, using a particular person’s name. And I know this subject from my own life too.

I want to make this clear from the start: not every mother-in-law casts spells, and not every mother-in-law is ‘bad’. There are wonderful mothers-in-law who care for their daughters-in-law or sons-in-law like their own children. And not every family argument is witchcraft. Often, it concerns a difficult relationship, boundaries, and old wounds — hers and yours. That is precisely why the release practice below does not accuse anyone: if she did nothing to you, nothing is returned.

Below I explain how I see the relationship with a mother-in-law, the signs when spells really are involved, and how to perform release step by step, on salt.

The relationship with a mother-in-law: family dynamics first

Before thinking about spells, look at what is happening in the family. The relationship with a mother-in-law is one of a person’s most charged relationships, because it brings together two family lineages.

A few dynamics I often see:

  • The mother who will not let her child leave. For some mothers, their son or daughter remains ‘her child’, and the child’s partner is perceived as someone who took them away. This is not necessarily malice; often it is an old wound of abandonment or loneliness.
  • Your partner caught in the middle. If your husband or wife has not detached from their mother, you will feel there are three of you in the relationship. This is not resolved by sending spells back, but through an honest discussion between the two of you and boundaries.
  • Family-lineage loyalties. The daughter-in-law or son-in-law comes ‘from outside’, with different customs. The lineage defends itself against what it does not know. I wrote about these inheritances in the article on ancestral karma and how to release it.
  • Your wound with your own mother. Sometimes your mother-in-law triggers exactly what you have not healed with your own mother. Then the work starts with you, not her. I wrote in depth about the mother wound and release practices with your mother.

And something else I say in every livestream: your first enemy is yourself, with everything you unconsciously think and say about yourself. Yes, external things exist, but if ‘I am stupid’, ‘I am not enough’, or ‘I do not deserve it’ runs through your mind, no mother-in-law release practice removes it for you.

If you live with anxiety or panic attacks, or feel overwhelmed in your relationship with your partner’s family, seek support from a psychologist or psychotherapist. Anxiety does not come only from spells; often there is a wounded inner child. And if there is violence or there are threats, call Romania’s emergency number, 112.

When spells are involved too: the signs I see

From what I see in the field and what people tell me, there are situations where spells accompany family dynamics. The signs prove nothing about any particular person — they are only indications that you have energetic work to do:

  • Strong reactions when you say her name in the release phrases: yawning until tears come, burping, hiccups, chills, heat, dizziness, nausea, pain, or stabbing sensations in the head. When the reaction appears precisely at a person’s name, something comes from there.
  • Patterns repeated among all the daughters-in-law or sons-in-law in the same family. I have seen cases where people from the same lineage who barely knew each other lived almost the same story: the same separations, losses, and blockages.
  • Blockages that appear suddenly after marriage or after entering your partner’s family: in love and sexuality, money and prosperity, children, or the home.
  • The feeling that your life is no longer yours — that you have taken a path that does not belong to you, as though your destiny has changed.
  • Nightmares and troubling dreams, which I wrote about separately in the article on what you dream when spells have been cast on you.

Important: do not start looking for culprits or confront anyone. You work on yourself, your children, and your home. The field does the rest.

How to prepare for release

  • Salt. I work at my desk with a tub containing about 2 kg of salt underneath, and I keep my feet in the salt while doing release practices. You can do the same.
  • Musk oil on your body. I always work with musk oil.
  • Align yourself. The more aligned you are, the stronger the release. That is why chakras need constant work — I have a whole series on the blog, starting with blocked chakras and how to unblock them.
  • Blessed water. You can drink water during release practices. Put a few crystals in a carafe, bless the water, pray over it, and drink.
  • Do not postpone it. If you feel you need release practices or a black candle, do not say ‘I will do it tomorrow’. When you feel something being placed on your back, sit down and work then.

Release step by step: using your mother-in-law’s name

Before this livestream, I gave ‘general’ release phrases: I send back all spells placed on me. Now I show you the practice individually: take the name of the person you want to release yourself from and put it in the phrase. If something feels strange and you do not know who it comes from, do not question it: take everyone in turn and release yourself from each one on salt. The phrase is designed precisely to return only what was done. If the person did nothing to you, nothing is sent back.

Very importantly: you give commands, rather than plead. Say the phrases from an energy of strength, because you write your field through your commands. Not ‘please, stop hurting me’, but ‘I send back’.

In the phrases below, replace [her name] with your mother-in-law’s name or the name of the person you are releasing yourself from:

  1. ‘I send back all spells cast by [her name] on me, my children, my home, and my businesses.’
  2. ‘I undo all energetic knots made by [her name] upon me and my children and send them back.’
  3. ‘I cancel all soul contracts in which I accepted abuse from [her name]. I cancel all contracts in which I said yes to her.’
  4. ‘I send back everything from the cemetery placed by [her name] on me, my children, my businesses, my love, and my relationships.’
  5. ‘I unbraid all ropes and any braiding made by [her name] upon me, my energy, my children’s energy, and everything that concerns me.’
  6. ‘I cancel any alteration of my energy field made by [her name].’
  7. ‘I send back all chains and all anchors placed by [her name] on me and my children.’
  8. ‘I send back all destiny-changing and prosperity-changing spells cast by [her name].’
  9. ‘I send back all spells cast by [her name] upon my sexuality, from all times and spaces, lives and dimensions. I call back all my sexual energy.’
  10. ‘I send back all spells placed upon my head, my mind, my third eye, and my communication.’
  11. ‘I call back all my energy and all my money from [her name].’
  12. ‘I ask that the whole truth concerning [her name] come to light.’
  13. ‘I end the soul contract with [her name].’

Beyond these phrases, specific things will come to you from the field. I recorded in the book everything I have seen over time and keep adding to it, but what is specific to you you feel; it comes through intuition. Follow that.

If you sense other people along the way — for example, a teacher who ‘tangled’ your mind in childhood — take them one by one, using the same phrase. But do not mix them: one person, then the next.

Contracts made at the wedding

One place people do not think of: the wedding. The two lineages meet there, rituals are performed, words spoken, and commitments made — and some of them bind you without your realizing it. In the livestream, when we reached the wedding, many people began yawning and burping.

Say:

  • ‘I send back all spells, witchcraft, and field programming done at my wedding.’
  • ‘I cancel all soul contracts made at my wedding that are not for my highest good.’

If your mother-in-law was involved in wedding preparations or had access to your personal belongings, it is worth working here using her name.

The heart: the ‘I look for love outside myself’ program

When you work on spells within the family, you almost always reach the heart. Say:

  • ‘I send all anchors placed upon my heart back to those who placed them.’
  • ‘I send back now all energies on my heart chakra that are not mine.’
  • ‘I dissolve the ‘I look for love outside myself’ program.’

I felt the last one very strongly: I lost many years seeking love outside myself when it is within. Many of us enter a new family looking there for the mother or father we never had — and the mother-in-law unintentionally becomes a mirror of this wound. I wrote about the relationship aspect in the article on release practices for love and sexuality.

Release, then activation

I always work this way: release, activation. Release, activation. Release unbinds, and in the short term, that day, your vibration may be lower because you have opened the jar of poison. That is why activation must follow immediately, to lift you up.

  • Cut the energy body in two. Imagine cutting the charged energetic layer with a sword, taking it off, and rising above it — as though breaking an eggshell and emerging.
  • A rain of fire and musk. Imagine a rain of musk with fire over you, burning everything that remains.
  • Activate yourself. ‘I call back all the will of my soul. I activate all my creativity. I activate all my power as a creator.’

Be aware: when you remove an energetic layer, the next may also be charged. That is why chakras need constant work, not just once.

What reactions may appear

During the livestream, people said they yawned until tears came, laughed and cried simultaneously, burped, had hiccups, chills, heat, dizziness, nausea, or headaches. I became hot and felt something releasing from my back. Tears come from the soul.

Some people feel being on salt is too difficult. One option is to light the black candle outside first, and only then begin release practices: it is easier to bear. You can find the full steps in the black candle ritual.

If a reaction is very strong or does not pass, stop, rest, and seek a doctor’s advice if needed.

After release: how to continue living with your mother-in-law

Release does not mean breaking your relationship with your mother-in-law or treating her as an enemy. It means that you no longer accept into your field what is not yours. Then, in daily life:

  • Set clear, calm boundaries. What enters your home, what decisions the two of you make, and how often you visit each other.
  • Speak to your partner, not her. Everyone manages their own family. If your partner cannot yet set boundaries with their mother, that is their work to do.
  • Work on your own programs. ‘I am stupid’, ‘I am not enough’, ‘I must be accepted by everyone’. Dissolve them and feel them leaving your body.
  • Do not work on her. You work ‘on me, my children, my home’. Go no further: do not try to change her or do anything back to her. You only return what belongs to her.
  • Learn to perform release yourself. Many approach me: ‘Come on, do a release for me.’ But whoever feeds energetically on you returns if you do not learn to release yourself and keep your chakras clean. Nobody can spin your chakras for you. That is why, for the individual session, I ask that spell release practices already be done at home.

If the relationship with your partner’s family drains you emotionally, a psychologist can help you establish boundaries and regain balance — you can also find an individual session with a psychologist on the site.

And if you want us to work together in a group on spells, come to the spell release workshop on November 14–15, 2026.

Perform the release practices with me

Put your feet in salt, take your musk oil, and repeat the phrases with me, using the name of the person you are releasing yourself from.

Frequently asked questions about spells from a mother-in-law

How can I tell whether my mother-in-law casts spells on me?

Not through suspicions or arguments. Perform release using her name, on salt: if strong reactions appear at her name — yawning with tears, burping, hiccups, dizziness — it is a sign you have something to return. If she did nothing to you, nothing returns and nothing happens.

Does every bad mother-in-law cast spells?

No. Most often, a difficult relationship with a mother-in-law concerns family dynamics: a mother who will not let her child leave, a partner who does not set boundaries, and old wounds on both sides. Boundaries, discussion within the couple, and a psychologist if needed help there.

Do I harm my mother-in-law if I send her spells back?

You do not work on her or do anything to her. You return only what she placed upon you, if she placed anything. You work on yourself, your children, and your home, not another person.

Can I perform release for my husband?

You can include your children in the phrase. You do not work directly on your husband or wife: they perform their own release practices with their own mother. Each in their own time.

What if the reactions are too strong?

Stop, drink water, and rest. You can light the black candle first and then begin release practices to make it easier. If a reaction is strong or persists, seek a doctor’s advice.

Nobody comes to take your power unless you give it to them. Return what is not yours, establish boundaries, and take your life into your own hands. Sending you a kiss.

Release practices and a mother-in-law: boundaries in your partner’s family

Conflict with a mother-in-law deserves to be viewed through behavior, boundaries, and your partner’s role. It does not prove the existence of spells. The Adevăr și Lecuire video material can accompany spiritual reflection while preserving this distinction.

What concerns the couple and what concerns the extended family

Visits, decisions, and comments about your life can become clearer when partners discuss them with each other first. You do not need to accuse someone of spiritual intentions to say their interference bothers you. You can continue reflecting with the public video material and release-practices book.

An exercise you can adapt

Choose a recurring situation and a rule for the couple: visits are arranged together, or personal decisions belong to us. State the boundary without accusations. Notice whether your partner can uphold the agreement, and seek support if the relationship becomes unsafe.

Frequently asked question

Does conflict with my mother-in-law mean she cast spells on me? No. Do not use a conflict or feeling unwell as proof of spells.
