Why read Psalm 100?

Psalm 100 encourages integrity at home and in daily responsibilities. Its commitment to avoid deceit and slander offers practical guidance for honest conduct and relationships.

You can read this psalm when its themes speak to your circumstances, or as part of your regular reading of the Psalter. This explanation draws on the text itself; the psalm is not reserved for one particular need.

Psalm 100 — «Your mercy and judgement I will sing...» — is the prayer through which the Psalmist places before God the experience of a whole hour of life. It belongs to the 13th Kathisma and has 10 verses, which you will find below in full.

The text of Psalm 100

1. Your mercy and judgement I will sing to You, O Lord.

2. I will sing and walk with understanding on a blameless path. When will You come to me?

3. I walked in the innocence of my heart, in my house.

4. I set no lawless deed before my eyes; I hated the breakers of the law.

5. The stubborn heart did not cling to me; I did not know the evil one who moved away from me.

6. The one who secretly slandered his neighbour, I drove away.

7. With the one proud in his eyes and insatiable in his heart, I did not eat.

8. My eyes are upon the faithful of the earth, that they may sit with me. The one who walked on a blameless path served me.

9. The proud will not dwell in my house; the one who speaks injustices will not stand before my eyes.

10. In the mornings I will judge all the sinners of the earth, to destroy from the city of the Lord all those who practise lawlessness.
